GILES, Erdem and Mary Katrantzou are among designers to be given this year's Swarovski Collective sponsorship. Others recipients includeMarios Schwab, J.W. Anderson and Craig Lawrence. Each designer will incorporate the brand's sparkly crystals into its spring/summer 2012 collections.
"We'll be finding remarkable, exciting and innovative ways to use Swarovski this season," Giles told us at the announcement last night. "We'll be incorporating crystal onto leather, then crystal onto feathers. Last season was such a success, commercially and editorially, so we'll be keeping the same girl in this collection. The Swarovski crystals are like the icing on the cake, they add a level of craftsmanship."
Swarovski is lending its support to New York and Paris-based designers too, namely Jason Wu, Juan Carlos Obando, Rebecca Minkoff, Rodarte, Bibhu Mohapatra, Thierry Mugler and Viktor & Rolf.
"As ever using Swarovski Elements enhance and increase the uniqueness of the collection this season as it is heavily hand-embroidered," Erdem told us. "The Swarovski Elements lift it into a unique, spectacular arena."
The brand named Lady Gaga's costume designer Zaldy Goco, and Lacroix illustrator Konstantin Kakanias as its jewellery collaborators of choice. The pair will both create jewellery lines for spring/summer 2012, available from January next year.
"I ended up creating more pieces than required for this collection I was so inspired," Goco told us. "My idea was to create pieces that you could wear all at once or by themselves. I really favoured the simple classic shapes of brilliant cuts, square cuts and baguettes and it started to end up having a bit of an industrial deco feeling to the collection."
Previous designers to have collaborated with the famous jewellery label include Christopher Kane, Hussein Chalayan and Alexander McQueen.
